We live life day-to-day, moment-to-moment, among the seemingly never-ending tasks, to-dos and obligations.
Bogged down; we lose sight of the ability to laugh. I lose sight of the ability to laugh. All of this can happen so easily. Why? Because we are human and sometimes there is just too much shit to do. I have always been envious of people who can hold onto their lightness during the high velocity of life (something I am actually currently working on, and I mean really working on). I know I feel most alive when I am able to recognize the humor in the words that are spoke during the everyday drama of life. Because let’s face it, if we keep our ears open, a lot of funny shit can be heard.
My son, Rory, has this little rubber bouncy horse. It’s almost comical, this thing. It has squatty little legs, a bulbous belly that nearly scrapes the ground in a standstill–it most certainly does under the pressure of an infant upon its back (check it out here).
One day, while Rory bounced down the upstairs hallway, my wife, Leslie said to him in passing:
“You boinkin’ your horse!?”
I literally laughed out loud, repeating it back to him, “Yeah! You boinkin’ your horse.”
These are the moments in life I love the most. Inappropriate things said without the forethought behind them. It’s one of life’s little pleasures and a great constant reminder to keep my ears open and my laughter on standby, ready to do its thing.
